Questions about our network

What speeds is your network capable of?

FX Networks has the fastest independent intercity pipeline in New Zealand capable of speeds up to 10Gpbs.

To put that in perspective, a 3-hour movie can be sent or received from one point to another in 7 seconds. Daily back-ups for major businesses that used to take many hours can be completed in a matter of minutes.

How can I be sure the FX network is reliable and stable?

Get in touch with us; any of our customers will be pleased to talk to you.

Your backbone network appears to connect Auckland and Wellington and points in between? Do I have to be based near the backbone to use your services?

No. Through our own network, and those of our infrastructure partners, we can access points of presence just about anywhere in the country. We work with our partners to create the best connection possible and manage the service level agreements with these providers on your behalf.

How is your network constructed?

Our network consists of a collapsed ring architecture coupled with an institutionally and route diverse redundant path through the North Island. The technology architecture for private services is Ethernet over MPLS layered on top of multi-ten gigabit direct Ethernet switching, and augmented with DWDM. ISP services run on gigabit routing coupled to the underlying fabric. Read more about our technology.

Questions about our services

What services do you provide?

With our WAN service, you can create a secure connection behind your firewall that gives staff in different locations access to the same data at the same time. You can use it to transfer data and voice cost effectively and at lightning speeds up to 10Gbps. There’s no wireless pollution – you get the size ‘pipe’ you pay for.

Our internet services can connect you to the global network at very high speeds on a flat rate, fixed cost basis. There are no volume charges plus you get unrestrained international upload speeds. ISPs will also want to check out our advanced network services.

If you choose to connect with us, you can also take advantage of our internet-based voice services. Use them to make free calls to anyone else connected to our network. We can also connect you to the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) so you can continue to make calls across traditional phone lines – at rates we think you’ll find extremely competitive.

Can I use your voice services without being an internet customer?

No. You need to be an ISP customer to access our VoIP services. We do however provide tunnel based delivery so you can trial things. Contact us for more details.

I understand you’re a niche operator focusing on providing the pipeline. What about other aspects of a network solution like network integration? How do I pull it together?

Leave it to us. We have our own network of resellers and subcontractors skilled in all aspects of network provision. We’ll be your point of contact and take responsibility for service levels for you. What’s more, you won’t be locked into a single provider. Read more about who we work with.

What happens if something goes wrong?

We’ll fix it. And we’ll be upfront about what caused the problem and how we’re going to stop it happening again. Transparency is central to our service approach which is why our key clients get to see exactly what we see through what we call Open Service Networking.

Do you peer?

Yes, we do. We operate an open peering policy because we believe local internet interconnection with as many networks as possible is central to a robust network services platform. We have dual 1 gigabit interconnects with the Auckland Peering Exchange and the Wellington Peering Exchange. We also provide a national peering fabric via our Premium ISP service and our OneExchange service. This is available at all of our POPs. It's lightning quick.

I want to use your 1Gbps services. What do I need to know?

Many operating systems have not implemented RFC1323, which is essential for high speed intercity networking. Find out more

I want to know more about FX Networks. Should I be talking to you or one of your resellers?

We’ve designed our network in a distributed fashion with an ‘eco-system’ of business partners with the intention of remaining flexible, responsive and efficient. We have no desire to create a behemoth corporation. To that end, we’ve made a deliberate decision to keep our team small, provide very good service to those we can, and work with our partners to provide customer care and support to all businesses who want to enjoy the benefits of our backbone network.

The organisations we service direct typically have offices in two or more cities and have a monthly telecommunications spend of $3,000 or more. That doesn’t mean your business has to meet these criteria to use our services. But, in the first instance, we do encourage you to make contact through one of our resellers.
